This guide outlines the four storytelling-medium options for the Community Voices for Action initiative. When applying, rank your preferences for each medium and explain which would be a good fit for your story and community and why. The final choice of medium will be a shared decision between the Center and the collaborator.
Short Video
Up to 2-minute documentary-style video about the story, filmed locally and edited by a professional video crew. Presented as an MP4 and embedded video on aamchealthjustice.org.
AAMC provides:
- Display and hosting on the Center’s website (aamchealthjustice.org)
- Video vendor (if the community doesn’t have one)
- Coaching on storytelling from Center staff, and art direction support
- Promotion of the story on AAMC and Center channels
- Project management support
Collaborator provides:
- Connection to subjects and art direction
- Story direction
- Recommendation of a local video vendor. The Center will then either deploy its selected vendor or use the collaborator's recommended vendor.
- Text to accompany video
- Promotion on community channels
Online Photography Exhibit
Ten to 20 high-resolution photographs of people, locations, and events arranged to tell a story, with accompanying short text on a webpage.
AAMC provides:
- Display and hosting on the Center's website (aamchealthjustice.org)
- Professional photographer (if the community doesn’t have one)
- Coaching on storytelling from Center staff, including co-editing on text
- Promotion of the story on AAMC and Center channels
- Project management support
Collaborator provides:
- Photo subjects and art direction
- Story direction
- Recommendation of a local photographer. The Center will then either deploy its selected vendor or use the collaborator's recommended vendor.
- Text to accompany photos
- Promotion on community channels
Story Map
Interactive digital map with images, text, and audio clips from a community.
AAMC provides:
- Story map vendor
- Hosting on the story map website
- Coaching on storytelling from Center staff, and art direction support
- Promotion of the story on AAMC and Center channels
- Project management support
Collaborator provides:
- Story direction
- Content for map points (maximum of 10)
- Promotion on community channels
Virtual Story Slam
Virtual 60-90 minute event featuring live storytelling by community members. The event will be free to attend and recorded for dissemination.
AAMC provides:
- Coaching on storytelling
- Hosting on Zoom
- Promotion of the virtual event on AAMC and Center channels
- Project management support
- Moderator, if desired
Collaborator provides:
- Storytellers (3 to 4)
- Story direction
- Moderator from the community, if desired
- Visual aids, if desired
- Promotion on community channels
