Harnessing the Power of Environmental Justice Storytelling

Stories for Change

The stories shared through Community Voices for Action are grounded in the lived experiences of individuals and communities. Each story reflects perspectives, cultural contexts, and histories unique to its storyteller.

No single story can capture the full range of experiences within a community. But each can offer invaluable insights to inspire collective action toward environmental justice. These stories are not offered as comprehensive accounts of any single community, but as sources of reflection, perspective, and inspiration.

While environmental challenges affect everyone, certain communities, particularly Black, Hispanic, Indigenous, and low-income communities, bear a disproportionate impact. Their knowledge is essential to advancing environmental justice and shaping the actions needed for lasting change.

Communities Share Their Wisdom

The AAMC Center for Health Justice is partnering with organizations across the United States to amplify stories of environmental injustice and community action. Each story highlights not only the challenges communities face, but also the resilience and creativity they bring to address them. These narratives reflect local struggles and solutions while offering lessons that resonate beyond their immediate context. Whether confronting pollution, protecting natural resources, or advocating for policy change, they illustrate how people are working together toward healthier, more equitable environments.

Stay tuned as we share these inspiring, multimedia stories. Subscribe to the Center’s newsletter to have them delivered straight to your inbox so you can be part of the journey.
