Solutions to Make Urban Ag Policies More Equitable

A new op-ed in Civil Eats authored by AAMC Center for Health Justice fellow Anthony Nicome, MHS, outlines the ways that current agricultural policy continues the historical marginalization of Black Americans, and how local and national policy solutions can ensure that Black communities have the access to land and healthy, affordable, sustainable food that other communities enjoy. Accurate race conscious data collection, lease-to-own land programs, changes to exclusionary zoning, and revising the federal Farm Bill all have the potential to build food sovereignty and the capacity for large-scale urban agriculture.
