A new commentary published online ahead of print in Academic Medicine calls on academic medical institutions to do more to build a strong network of collaborators across public and population health, government, community groups, and the private sector. The piece is authored by David J. Skorton, MD, AAMC president and CEO; Philip M. Alberti, PhD, founding director of the AAMC Center for Health Justice and AAMC senior director of health equity research and policy; and Malika Fair, MD, MPH, AAMC senior director of equity and social accountability. The authors note that everyone in academic medicine must hold themselves accountable for consistently weaving community collaborations throughout research, medical education, and clinical care.
